FAQ

Materials

All jewelry is designed and handcrafted by Niyol Jewelry.  All stones are AAA-grade gemstones. We do not work with glass or beads.  Each stone is individually selected and no two stones are the same. Please allow for natural variances in your order.

All of our metals are recycled and each is hypoallergenic, lead and and nickel free.  We use sterling silver, brass and 14k gold fill.

Please note that the inherent nature of metal causes tarnishing, especially in brass and sterling silver.  This is a natural process from oxygen, moisture and oils in the skin.  See our care instructions below to defer this process and maintain your jewelry's shine.

Gold Fill VS Plating

Gold fill is made from gold, in our case 14k, and filled with a center core of alloys; bronze, brass, or sterling. Unlike plating, gold fill will not rub off.  Plating is a very thin surface coat of gold that is not fully bonded to the alloy below allowing it to easily rub off with wear.  Gold fill is often used as pure gold is much softer to work with. Gold fill allows a piece to be somewhat tougher for in hammering as well as less expensive. Care for gold fill just as you would pure gold.

Brass

Brass is a much-loved alternative to gold.  It is an alloy metal comprised of copper and tin. It is a jewelry specific alloy that has the look of 18k gold when finished. Brass is a cost-effective and lustrous alternative to gold that is incredibly durable and long-lasting.

Brass contains alloys that may sometimes cause a green or darkish discoloration in reaction to the oils in some people's skin. This is not harmful and washes off very easily. If you do not want this to occur, please consider upgrading to gold.  The vintage chains on longer necklaces are all brass. If you would like to upgrade to gold, please reach out and note that the chain style will differ.

All brass and gold earrings have a 14k gold fill hooks to provide higher quality and attempt to prevent against metal allergies.
